With save to PDF we could use the merge tool to create all kind of docs right from my contacts, not only contracts. Petitions, receipts, letters, proposals, reports, memos etc
Also sometimes we just need to read, share, proof read, save and even print the document before sending it to be signed.

Document Templates now have the ability to remove the signature requirement which means you can use them as the Template to generate any type of document, just like you describe. We call these Dynamic Documents.
