Email reminders for appointments using relative timeframes

If an appointment is set for several months in the future, is there a way to set reminder email notifications closer to the appointment date preferably using a relative date or timeframe (i.e. xx days prior to event date or xx hours prior to event start date/time)?
We were thinking of using appointments to schedule review dates for policies and procedures and some contracts (that were created outside of SuiteDash). We are setting up the appointments to review them annually, but would like reminder emails to go out within a specified number of days prior to the review appointment using relative dates.
